About Us
Stephanie & Eric
We're a husband and wife team - he's the tech guy and my biggest cheerleader and I'm the quilter and fiber artist extraordinaire!
We've been married since September 2018, and we live with our two dogs Aida and Luna, and our five chickens. (Don't worry, we keep pets and quilts separate!) We love the sunshine and the outdoors, we like riding bicycles and playing ukulele, and we have way too many plants.
We're patient, compassionate people and we're committed to leaving the world in a better state than we found it. And above all we'd love to help you make just the perfect quilt you're looking for!
Fiber arts is my passion, and I would love to hear all about your project and your passion for it as well! It makes my job all the better to know that this quilt will be for your first grandchild, or for your niece's wedding, or your friend's birthday. We can work together to put just the perfect finishing touches on your project to make your quilt even more meaningful and personal.
I'm also happy to work with you on planning or brainstorming before you even begin your project, or to give advice any time you run into trouble. I love to help solve tricky problems, and it would make my day to set your mind at ease. My help and advice is always nonjudgmental, so please don't hesitate to bring me any questions you may have.
I'm Stephanie!
Nice to meet you.
I've been a fiber artist for most of my life - I've been crocheting since I was 8, knitting since 12, spinning yarn since 18, and sewing since 27. I also do cross stitch, embroidery, weaving, clothes design and alteration - anything to do with fibers and fabric, really. I love working with textiles of all kinds and making beautiful, useful things! Nothing makes me happier than diving into a project and giving my all to make it the very best it can be.
Why choose me to help you finish your quilt? Because I'm built for it.
I'm autistic, and fiber arts are my lifelong hyperfixation - which is also how this shop got its name! This means I can offer you the full force of a passion and focus that's hard to equal, aimed directly at bringing your vision to life. I know that's the kind of service I would want, if I were trusting someone to work on a project I'd put a lot of time and love into.
There's a lot of misinformation and stigma about autism and especially about autism in women, but in my case I've found it to be more gift than burden, at least once I was diagnosed and understood how autism has shaped me. There are some textures that feel to me like nails on a chalkboard sound, and most of the world is way too loud and too bright - and despite caring about people a great deal, small talk and social conventions are still kind of a mystery to me.
But it also gives me a pure, intense kind of joy to dive into a fiber arts project and bring it to life. The drive to keep my hands moving means I'm always working on something, and always learning as I go. And my autism allows me a kind of effortless attention to the larger picture of what the finished project is meant to look like, and a road map of the best way to make that happen.
If you're interested in learning more about autism, you can find lots more information at the Autism Society of America. If you'd like to hear more about my experience with autism, please stay tuned for the book I'm writing!
